Family Weekend 2022 will be September 16-18

We are pleased to welcome our Hawkeye Parents, Families and Guardians for Family Weekend 2022! Family Weekend offers an array of opportunities to amp up your Hawkeye Pride and connect with your student's experience on campus. The weekend's events and complete schedule is listed below. We are so excited to have you back on campus - Go Hawks!

What to know for Family Weekend

Registration material

Welcome bags and event tickets will be distributed in the IMU Hubbard Commons(location) on Friday, noon to 7 p.m. during Welcome and Registration. Following Welcome and Registration, material can be picked up at the IMU Welcome Center until 10 p.m. Materials will be distributed during the tailgate for families that are not able to pick up their items on Friday.

Additional tickets

Update: additional tickets are now sold out. A limited number of tickets for An Evening of Fun and Entertainment with Wes Mathison and Dance Marathon Runway of Hope can be purchased with a credit/debit card through the weekend while supplies last. Only families that have already registered for Family Weekend will have the ability to purchase the limited amount of additional tickets.

Family Weekend Tailgate

Note: The Family Weekend Tailgate is sold out.

Food and drinks are included with your tailgate package. Attendees will have the option to choose between items such as hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork, fruit and more! Each food item will have an ingredient label provided. The tailgate will also include games, music, and a special appearance from Herky to kick off the event! The Family Weekend Tailgate is a dry event.

Tours

Friday from noon to 3 p.m. are the designated times for Family Weekend facilitated tours. Families can tour multiple locations if time permits. Facilities may be open for additional hours for self-guided tours or facilitated tours depending on registration and scheduling.

Family Weekend registration

Family Weekend 2022 registration has closed. Limited tickets may be available for purchase at the door.

There is a $10 base registration fee per family. The following Items are included with your base registration: Hawk Shop Discount, Marketplace Discount, Football Ticket Code (note: tickets are now sold out), Family Weekend Merchandise, Tours, CRWC Discount Pass. 

Although majority of events are included in the $10 Family Weekend registration, there are certain events that will include an additional charge. All fees associated with Family Weekend are non-refundable. 

Your University of Iowa student(s) should be accounted for in your registration when registering for all events. Tickets for each individual are required for entry at the Live Entertainment and Family Weekend Tailgate.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. The University of Iowa Family Spirit Award

The award recognizes a Hawkeye family—spanning at least three generations of University of Iowa graduates—that has substantially benefited from and continues to advocate for the UI, as well as contributes toward bettering the state of Iowa and its communities.

The George Sterling Ashton family of Davenport, Iowa, is the recipient of the 2022 University of Iowa Family Spirit Award.

The Ashton family will be formally recognized on September 17 during Family Weekend.

UI Stanley Museum of Art Tour

Date and time: Friday, September 16, 2022, noon to 3p.m.

The University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art welcomes families to discover and enjoy extraordinary works of art, explore new ideas, and cultivate new insights into history, culture, and the act of creation. There will be docent-led tours available on Friday, September 16, beginning at 12, 1, and 2 pm. The Stanley will be open all weekend (see hours listed below) for those interested in exploring the space on their own. Space is limited, so reserve your spot online (reservations open after August 26).

Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC) Tour

Date and time: Friday, September 16, 2022, noon to 3 p.m.

Take advantage of touring our amazing Campus Recreation Wellness Center where hundreds of students visit daily for numerous activities. Our state-of-the-art facility boasts 20,000 square feet of fitness space over three levels, a 52-foot climbing wall, a 50-meter competitive swimming pool, an 18-foot-deep diving well, jogging track, basketball/volleyball courts, café and more.

UI Museum of Natural History Tour

Date and time: Friday, September 16, 2022, noon to 3 p.m.

Tour the magical museum that has been part of the Hawkeye experience for more than 160 years. First, a docent-led journey through 500 million years of our state’s geological, cultural, and ecological history in Iowa Hall where you will meet our famous museum mascot, Rusty the Giant Sloth (#SelfieWithRusty), and find our gift shop. Next, make your way up to Bird and Mammal Halls to find the real hidden treasures including the Laysan Island Cyclorama and “the whale”. Tours will begin at the Iowa Hall front desk on the first floor.

Old Capitol Museum Tour

Date and time: Friday, September 16, 2022, noon to 3 p.m.
Location: 21 N Clinton St, Iowa City, IA 52242

The Old Capitol remains one of the most recognizable symbols of the state of Iowa, located at the heart of our beautiful campus in downtown Iowa City. Our docent-led tour features history of our National Historic Landmark which served as Iowa's first state capitol from 1846-1857 and the University of Iowa's founding building. A rite of passage for all Hawkeyes, a visit to the Old Capitol Museum is a must and a souvenir from our gift shop is a treat. Tours will begin at the main entrance on the south side of the building.

Guides will be available at the registration area to take families to each tour location.

Family Weekend Kickoff Social hosted by the Division of Student Life

The Official Family Weekend Kickoff is an opportunity to mix, mingle and receive an official welcome from Sarah Hansen, Vice President of Student Life and Angie Reams, Associate Vice President and Dean of Students. This will also be an opportunity for our first-generation families to receive more information about resources for first-generation students. Light refreshments are provided.

Young Alumni Panel

Join us to hear from UI recent graduates as they reflect on their time as undergraduates and share how their experiences at UI have shaped them for life after college. Our panel will share the tips, tricks, and advice that helped them succeed. Recent graduates will provide the inside scoop on helpful resources they discovered, family support that helped in their journeys, and the transition following undergraduate studies (graduate school, full-time career, etc.).

An Evening of Fun and Entertainment with Wes Mathison

Wes Mathison is a Los Angeles native who now finds his home in Chicago. He has spent the past few years touring with Broadways bestselling magic show The Illusionists. Wes is also one of the most in demand college entertainers. Bringing his one-man magic and mentalism show to Colleges and Universities across the United States. Wes’ magic has taken him all over the world. He was twice featured in New York’s longest running off Broadway show Monday Night Magic and was the crowd favorite at the Amsterdam Magic Show in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Family Weekend Tailgate

Location: Field House, 225 S Grand Ave, Iowa City, IA 52240
Cost: $10 per person (children 5 and under are free). Note: The Family Weekend Tailgate is sold out.

Food is included with the purchase of a tailgate ticket.

Parking:
Football Parking (Please note: traffic around Kinnick Stadium is very congested and parking is limited. We suggest parking in the Hancher Auditorium parking lot and using the free football charter bus to the stadium. Bus service starts 9 a.m.)

Join us for a tailgate and plenty of Hawkeye spirit - all within walking distance of historic Kinnick Stadium. Meet other families, enjoy food, music and games, and get your family picture taken!

After the tailgate, amp up your Hawkeye Pride at the FREE pregame Lot Show and Rec Show. The Lot Show occurs two hours prior to kickoff as the Hawkeye Drumline performs in front of the Rec Building, outside the northwest corner of Kinnick Stadium. The Rec Show occurs an hour and fifteen minutes prior to kickoff featuring the award winning Hawkeye Marching Band. Go Hawks!

UI Dance Marathon Runway of Hope

Cost: $25 per person (seating is limited)

Join us for UI Dance Marathon's annual fundraising brunch to support pediatric oncology patients being treated at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. During the brunch, we will have a Silent Auction and our Runway of Hope Kiddo Fashion Show where our incredible UI Dance Marathon kiddos, along with their siblings and University of Iowa student leaders, will walk the runway.

The University of Iowa Dance Marathon creates and sustains special projects to provide emotional and financial support and services for pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant patients and their families treated at University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.
