Improving World-Ready Skills

Employers tell us that the three most important career-ready competencies are: communication, critical thinking, and teamwork.

The Civic Dialogue Initiative will contribute to these areas, equipping students today with the skills they will need to meet tomorrow’s challenges head on. Students will be more effective at building relationships, collaborating, and making decisions that matter.

Year 2 Pilot Project Overview

For the 2025–2026 academic year, the Civic Dialogue Initiative will pilot its second-year program in a residence hall housing approximately 480 students and supported by 12 Resident Assistants (RAs). A similar residence hall with comparable demographics and structure will serve as a control group to help assess the program’s impact.

This year’s pilot integrates practical, student-centered dialogue skills into the standard residential experience. Through intentional programming and RA-led engagement, students will be encouraged to reflect on their communication styles, navigate differences, and build stronger connections with their peers. The overarching goal is to strengthen students’ ability to communicate effectively, foster meaningful relationships, and contribute to a more connected residential environment.
